Health Activist Awards: TMI Award 2011

by Amanda

One of our Health Activist Awards is TMI Award 2011. Being upfront, honest, and sometimes blatantly oversharing can take a health blog from good to great. It’s exciting to read and, even better, really helps people confront some personal albeit uncomfortable aspects of living with a health condition. Let’s reward a Health Activist who is always willing to go there for the sake of their community.

They said what?! This Health Activist goes there. No matter how embarrassing, painful, awkward, uncomfortable, or silly their stories  may be – you can expect this Health Activist to give you all of the details (and more). Their confessions have entertained you, opened your eyes, or taught you something. They are doing a huge service for the community by being so frank and honest – and helped so many say, “I can relate to that!” and be more open with themselves about their condition, their care, and more.

This is a chance to recognize the Health Activists you know who aren’t afraid to share every embarassing detail.  Thank them with a nomination!

She educates herself to deal better with her own ailings and shares all she has learned with others so they too can heal and begin to live healthier daily lives. She is very creative in the ways that she inspires. with her own powerful voice and words of wisdom she *cracks the whip*. She is one amazing woman who not only deals with the daily struggles of her own family and health, but is ALWAYS on top of her *lupies* I give her all the credit in the world, and she definately deserves to be recognized for all her hard work and caring.

While maintaining a busy college life, Candice has managed to regularly post to her blog about living as a gluten-free college student with Celiac Disease. After being sick throughout all of high school, Candice was finally diagnosed with Celiac Disease prior to her sophomore year of college. As the name of her blog says, Candice has embraced her gluten-free lifestyle and has chosen to live positively with Celiac Disease, sharing her adventures along the way. I am always impressed that Candice can juggle college, her blog, her Twitter, and her Facebook accounts. She is honest and upbeat which keeps me reading each post. Candice loves to experiment in her kitchen and share her recipes with her blog readers. Without reservations, I nominated Candice of Embrace G-Free for the Rookie of the Year.

You Can Pick the Health Activist Awards Winners!

by Amanda

We’re so excited about the Health Activist Awards that we want to get the community involved in every way possible! That means – in addition to recognizing Health Activists for their great work in 2011 – we want to share the responsibility (and excitement!) of chosing the final winners with you.

It’s no secret that Awards can turn into popularity contests. Health Activists are all awesome in no matter how established or “influential” they are – we want to celebrate everyone! What better way to select winners of the Health Activist Awards than by a panel of judges who are Health Activists themselves?

We’re creating a Health Activist Awards Judging Panel to help us decide who wins.

When nominations have closed (December 31, 2011) we’ll pull all the nominations together and pick winners for each Award with the help of a select Health Activist Judging Panel. Each Health Activist judge will join a WEGO Health team member in combing through all the awesome nominations and selecting winners and honorable mentions for the Award they are judging. It’s a great way to celebrate and share in Health Activism together (and it’s going to be a ton of fun)!

Want to join us and help award the first ever Health Activist Awards?

Announcing: The Health Activist Awards 2011

by Amanda

You inspire us every day with your commitment to your online health community – and it’s time we celebrate. This year has been the biggest year in Health Activism’s history – so let’s reflect on all the amazing accomplishments. We’re announcing our first ever Health Activist Awards to honor and reward all of the great work that Health Activists did in 2011.

What better way to commemorate awesome milestones than by bringing everyone in the Health Activist community together to share what they love. We’ve created an interactive Awards Program to get you and your communities excited to share what has moved you, inspired you, and made a real difference in how you think about healthcare and living well.

Here are the details.

What: The Health Activist Awards: 2011 – A WEGO Health Program created to reward Health Activists for their accomplishments over the course of a calendar year as well as to bring awareness, attention, and a voice to their pursuits.

Why: To recognize well-known Health Activists for their continued efforts but also to recognize and showcase the newcomers who have inspired us all with their passion and dedication and will make a huge difference in the online community.

When: Nominations will begin December 1, 2011. Winners will be announced in January 2012.

How: We want everyone to be involved so we will be taking nominations for each of the 10 Health Activist Award categories. After we review all nominations, a panel of Health Activist judges and WEGO Health Team members will come together to select the winner. Winners will be announced in January through a fanfare of posts, spotlights, and features. Each winner will receive an exclusive Health Activist Award Prize pack. Want to be a member of the Health Activist Judging Panel and help decide who will win the awards? Apply to be a judge here.

Did you say Prize Pack? Yes. In addition to the bragging rights and site badge – each Health Activist Award Winner will receive a collection of rewards geared to their Health Activism. These prize packs will include resources, opportunities, and ways to catapult each winner into 2012 with the tools to plan an incredible year of advocacy.
